Gotcha

Simon's legs began to wobble.

His bold indignation against gravity was being met with harsh ramifications.

Indeed, a far lean this way or that would not be tolerated in the kingdom of gravity, where all creatures were forced to abide by it's unyielding code, lest they suffer the consequences. Simon, the little revolutionary that he was, known for his bold steps outside the lines, had decided he could reach a patch of wood too far above and left of his person. And for that, he was in need of a reminder of who controlled who in this meager existence.

The wooden ladder below began to tilt against the force of his outstretched legs, and as he tried to return to the platform of wood as a correctional action, the damage was already done. The wood creaked as the earth below it seemed to shift. He regretted not securing the ladder as he confronted a grim possibility that had become a reality the second he chose to not abide.

Simon was falling.

But the second his balance was gone...

A hand quickly clasped his arm.

A large leather shoe rested itself on the bottom rung of his ladder.

And for a moment, the world seemed to stop.

Except for his heart. And a few drops of paint.

"Gotcha." Leona said, bringing her foot down and Simon back to the ground, keeping a tight grip on his hand.

She gave him a relieved smile. 

He returned with a wide-eyed failure to take in what had just happened. But he felt his feet return to solid ground, and thanked gods he didn't really believe in that she had been nearby.

"You good?" She asked.

He gave a nod. She turned calmly back to her work, releasing his hand. Simon soon followed suit.


A quick story for a quick drawing.

Is it a simple story to suit a drawing?

Could it be a metaphor? Maybe that Simon rarely steps outside of his boundaries or takes any kind of risk out of fear of violating the status quo and thus lives a quiet and resentful life that is frustrating but capable of being changed thanks to those in his life who are reaching out to him? When he falls, he finally has those there to catch him?

Or is it pandering to a popular Macro artist who recently, for some god-forsaken reason, decided to follow me on tumblr and I know this is what he likes?

Who's to say? We must find our own reasons.
